Company expands product management with industry experts

Sumitomo (SHI) Demag has defined additional product management experts, each of whom is aligned with future strategic topics. Position the business to respond more quickly to tomorrow’s product strategies as they emerge.

“Now responsible for 75% of Sumitomo (SHI) Demag’s order intake, the company’s direction remains heavily influenced by the all-electric IntElect series. Yet the product strategy increasingly includes elements that fall outside the team’s mechanical engineering expertise,” notes Dr. Thorsten. Thümen, Senior Engineering Manager at Sumitomo (SHI) Demag. He explains: “Industry-specific requirements are integrated and developed with digital added value. The structured integration of these complex requirements from machine, application, industry, systems and digitization requires professional product management, which we have now established.”

The new team will be integrated into the engineering department under the leadership of Dr. Thümen. Ensure that the whole engineering department is closer to the customer. “This allows market requirements to be recognised, developed and implemented quickly. Thanks to this, our product management approach takes current trends into account by combining industry-specific sales with product-related developments” , explains Dr. Thümen.

Four Product Managers have been appointed and they are responsible for advancing the company’s respective machine series, process technologies and digital solutions. “This approach consists of following the life cycles of our products, identifying new market requirements if necessary, implementing the necessary technologies and marketing our solutions accordingly”, summarizes Peter Gladigau. The plastics processor has worked for Sumitomo (SHI) Demag since 2011 and is responsible for the IntElect series of all-electric machines. As part of the new structure, Gladigau will also specialize in silicone processing.

The aim of this restructuring is to respond more quickly to changing market needs, customer wishes and industry-specific development trends and to implement them more effectively in the various business areas. In doing so, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag is once again charting a new course for the future.
