Trimble Introduces Innovative Rail Module for Real-Time Monitoring Software

Game-changing add-on reduces up to 95% of office work for rail surveillance projects

Las Vegas, November 7, 2022—Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) today announced version 6.4 of Trimble® 4D Control™ (T4D) software, including an add-on rail-specific monitoring solution. T4D is a real-time motion detection and monitoring software suite. The rail module simplifies the data collection process and reduces the office work required to automate motion detection by up to 95%.

The announcement was made today at Trimble Dimensions+ Conference.

Track geometry monitoring is necessary to help identify deformations caused by activities such as tectonic movements, heat waves, and nearby construction. Real-time data captured can be used to assess track condition, which can help operators make informed decisions regarding track maintenance. This process contributes to the continued flow of rail traffic and passenger safety.

The T4D Rail software module, combined with a Trimble total station, automates time-consuming rail monitoring data collection. Conventional data collection methods, which require surveyors to manually collect every data point along the tracks, often disrupt traffic and increase worker risk. In addition, the module automates complex calculations to generate railroad geometry analysis and deliverables, reducing the number of errors that can occur during manual calculations.

  • Automate lane geometry parameter calculations, generate analysis graphs and trigger alarms; and
  • Expand business opportunities by reducing crew field time and simplifying calculations, minimizing the learning curve that accompanies sophisticated rail monitoring processes.
